Sherwoods general manager Simon MacConachie, ready for a new challenge with Chevrolet.
Sherwoods accelerates into the New Year with ambitious expansion plans
NORTH-EAST car dealer Sherwoods is accelerating into the New Year with ambitious expansion plans.
The family run firm has signed up to sell Chevrolet thanks to a major investment at its Stockton site, which already sells Vauxhalls.
A modern purpose-built Chevrolet glass showroom will be constructed at the Preston Farm dealership complete with dedicated sales, after-sales and servicing staff.
Sherwoods has enjoyed previous success with the Chevrolet brand which it also sells at its Darlington site in Chesnut Street.
The new 182sqm Chevrolet showroom will sit alongside the existing Vauxhall sales area and will have its own dedicated staff and customer lounge.
Salesman Peter Gibson, who has helped build the brand in Darlington, will be on hand to advise customers.
Sherwoods has invested in tools and training and the showroom will be light and airy featuring the blue and gold corporate colours of Chevrolet.
General manager Simon MacConachie said: “Chevrolet is a long-established American Brand with cult status, but in Europe the proposition is quite different.
“The brand is all about value for money, reliable motoring, as well as the great customer care we hope people have come to expect from Sherwoods. If the new Captiva 4x4 is anything to go by, we have a lot to be excited about in terms of future product.”
Chevrolets start from £5,595 for the Matiz city car up to £15,995 for the new 4x4, the Captiva. The range also features the Kalos and Lacetti and this year will see the launch of two new models, the Aveo hatchback and Epica saloon.
Mr MacConachie said: “We are really excited about the new venture. We have already enjoyed a great deal of success with Chevrolet in Darlington and I am looking forward to building the brand on Teesside.”
Sherwoods became a mini group last May when it acquired the Stockton site on Concorde Way – on the main road to Ingleby Barwick, Europe’s largest private housing development – adding to its dealerships in Darlington and Northallerton. Within months the Stockton site won a regional award for its sales successes.
Founded in Darlington in 1928, Sherwoods was taken over by Simon’s father 25 years ago. It now supports more than 200 staff in the group and boasts an annual turnover of more than £70m.
Managing director Alasdair MacConachie said: “Chevrolet has served the Sherwoods name well over the years and I am confident it will enjoy as much success on Teesside.
“It is a well-proven, well-priced brand that offers reliable and practical motoring and all the benefits of buying new that previously some customers might not have been able to aspire to.”
