Sherwoods Stockton tops the sales charts
A NORTH-EAST car dealer has topped the sales charts just months after taking over a new site.
Sherwoods took over the Vauxhall dealership on Preston Farm, Stockton, earlier this year and in just the second quarter has sold new cars worth more than £700,000, earning a regional accolade for its efforts.
The dealership has just been presented with the Regional Excellence Award by Vauxhall for out-selling other marques in the district.
Sherwoods Stockton general manager Simon MacConachie, who has worked for the family business since leaving school, said: “I am absolutely thrilled that in such a short period of time we have managed to achieve so much. Our staff have responded well to the new business philosophy. The Sherwoods brand is well established in Darlington and Northallerton and the latest figures show that we are now making a name on Teesside.”
Sherwoods was founded in Darlington in 1928 and was taken over by Simon’s father, Alasdair MacConachie, 25 years ago. The company moved into the Stockton site in May transforming the family-run business into a mini-group. The move lifted the company’s £55m annual turnover to about £70m.
The Stockton deal secured 43 jobs in sales, aftersales and an accident and repair centre swelling the company’s workforce to more than 200. Existing staff at the 2.5-acre site will benefit from increased training and Sherwoods’ management is expecting to boost the workforce as trade grows. The Stockton dealership, on Concorde Way leading to Ingleby Barwick, will also add the Chevrolet franchise for sales and servicing from early next year. As well as its headquarters in Chestnut Street, Darlington, Sherwoods runs Chevrolet and used car operations on adjacent sites and a Vauxhall dealership in Standard Way, Northallerton.
